Singing was something Lorne seemed to do a lot of in the recent days to pass. He'd always been a firm believer in the idea that singing was the best way out there for one to bear their soul. After all, it was what he told his clientele, and really, it actually was true.
"Here we are dusting down the stars..
Left by the roadside all alone, I turned to speak to you right there and you were gone; You stood and cried and wondered why You can't return from where we came; Why are we born to fade away?"
Back when Lorne first arrived in this dimension, music was the one thing that showed him that the world out there was not as bleak and ugly as Pylea. He found music to be so pure, so beautiful, so painful, but so right. Music had a certain healing quality inwhich the demon sough solace. And as it just so happened, most of the songs out there worth singing, just so happened to be the most depressing songs in the world.
Perfect for a sad Pylean whose entire world had just been turned upside down.

He tossed a twenty onto the counter, resting a hand on Lorne's shoulder. "Besides," Spike added, "The world's better when it doesn't need bloody saving."
"No arguments from me there, my friend," Lorne said in agreeance as he watched Spike stand up. After all, the demon had seen enough instances in his lifetime in this dimension where the world was about to end, evidence to that fact with the feeling he seemed to be getting lately that something huge was about to rear it's ugly head.
Then again, if the world ended, Lorne probably wouldn't still be standing to see more of his friends die. It was another way of looking at it. Another bleak way of looking at it, but with the way things were headed these days, the demon couldn't help but be anything but.
"Anyway," Lorne went on to say before Spike made his way out the door, "If you see that little demon spawn again, you tell him to stop by and see me."
A sidelong smirk crept across his face. "Tell him Uncle Lorne wants to see his favorite nephew."

Contemplation.

A gust of a light September breeze whipped around Lorne's shoulders, sending his orange necktie to flutter about in the warm wind, then it settled down unnoticed as the air around the lanky demon quelled. He stood with elbows leaning on the railing which encompassed the patio on the rooftop of his NightClub and his home, thoughtfully puffing away on the cigarette in between his ruby lips. He looked down at the streets below, the lights of the Strip twinkling in the pupils of his large crimson eyes.
The small veranda on the rooftop had been set up with a small garden; A few potted palm trees dotted the perimeter and in the center there was a firepit and chairs with a few small tables inbetween. There were a smattering of trellises which grew various flowers that provided cover and afternoon shade, and a little pond with koi babbled somewhere in amongst the palms. Elian had helped Lorne build the garden years ago, though it was seldom used as the demon spent a great deal of his time indoors doing his job.
But now when his job didn't really seem worth doing, the demon found lately he'd retreat to the rooftop to spend a lot of time on his own just thinking. He didn't really consider the practice as brooding, because heaven forbid he fall into the same trap that he spent so much time pulling everyone else out of. But as the lines of age began to show on his once boyish face, Lorne had really started to begin questioning what direction his life had really made a turn for. With his best friend gone and the woman he loved changed, even prescience couldn't tell him what he wanted to know.
And yet, with all the time the demon spent in thought, mentally detached from the rest of the world, he couldn't help but agonize over strange things like the afterlife, where secrets go, and why the birds flew south. He wondered why all his friends seemed to die and why, no matter where in the world he seemed to end up, chaos seemed to follow.
The last thought was impromptu, it didn't normally cross his mind until this morning. Something shifted in the atmosphere. He couldn't put a finger on it, but it turned his horns to the sky when the sun broke free of the horizon. Elian's death was only the tip of the iceberg of things to come, and he knew for certain in his mind that it wouldn't be the last.
On that thought, the cigarette between his lips was spent, and the butt was pulled with long green fingers and carelessly flicked down to the streets below. Lorne pulled the front of his peacock blue blazer closed and buttoned it back up before he headed back towards the door leading downstairs. Beneathe his Gucci-clad feet, the music in his club reverberated quietly and his clientele anxiously awaited him.
He was the Go-To guy, through and through, but Lorne couldn't help but wonder these days, who he could go to, now that his Go-To guy was gone.
